AVI Systems Picks Up 26 Former Roscor Employees

Minneapolis-based AVI Systems, an employee-owned systems integrator, has picked up 26 former Roscor employees, the company’s CEO Jeff Stoebner says this week. That’s about one quarter of all employees that were laid off by the Mount Prospect, IL-based company at the end of October.

“Roscor was a fantastic company, that had fanstastic employees and fantastic clients,” Stoebner says. “It was because of that that AVI went aggressively after so many of those employees because we wanted to keep them together. That’s what a company is, it’s an assembly of people, that together can accomplish something that none could accomplish alone.”

2011 PRO AV Brand Leaders

Pro AV announces its AV Brand Leaders for 2011. In April, Pro AV gave readers a link to an online survey and asked them to indicate which AV product brands they used, specified, or installed most. They were allowed to select more than one in 29 product categories. Overall, 303 registered and 275 qualified AV pros completed the survey. Check out the results here...

The Grand Opening will feature a Ribbon Cutting by the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce officially opening the new facility, lunch, informational seminars and walking tours highlighting the latest AV solutions available.

Game Change: Imagine the NFL in Your Stadium

No question, Cowboys Stadium will add plenty of glam to Super Bowl XLV. But as cool as the place is, it’s a mere shadow of what stadium experiences will probably be like, even a few years from now, thanks to rapid-fire change in the world of audio visual interactivity. The jumbotron? Hey, it rhymes (almost) with mastodon.

Imagine, for instance, a smart phone – or another mobile device we haven’t even seen yet! – in the hands of almost every sports fan that walks into your stadium. Those phones are equipped with apps that connect them to each other, to a cloud-based search and reasoning engine, and to the digital signage in your stadium. Suddenly, you’ve got thousands of people with a shared passion, in a shared space, with a shared technology: So what will you do to unite them even more?

How about using your tracking power to welcome converging groups of friends and family members on nearby overhead monitors? It’s a great way to create loyalty. Plus your database has probably already collected information from past visits, surveys, and ticket purchases, giving you a pretty good idea about who likes beer, who wants pizza, and who needs a souvenir jersey, So what about targeting coupons for concession stands and retail venues in the stadium? You could even GPS the directionally impaired to the location and then get them back to their seats.

Once the game’s on, there are times when fans are focused and times when they want distraction. What if that instant replay on the overhead monitor could be given an individualized angle on the fan’s mobile phone or a live feed analysis? How about trivia contests played on the smart phones, with answers and prizewinners beamed on the monitors? Or contests for the best amateur photo taken during the game, voted on by the fans? Collecting the prize sends them back to your retailers and restaurants. Surveys and MVP votes are another great way to get fans involved, and they can also be done before and after the game, to build your attendance base.

In the broadest sense, stadiums are entering an era where the visceral, communal experience of enjoying an NFL game – or any live event – is joined with the audio visual sophistication of watching at home, with access to richer analysis, entertainment, and convenience. The possibilities, for generating loyalty, building community, and increasing profits, are limitless. Will your stadium be ready for the audio visual touchdown?
