Enhancing the Learning Environment with State-of-the-art AV

In this day and age, there is no escaping the constant technological advances. Technology has evolved our everyday life, especially in higher education.

Students rely more and more on technology to enhance their learning environment – this requires universities to adapt to these advances. In 2015, the University of Montana (UMT) continued their process of adoption.

An alumnus who spent a majority of their undergrad career in the Liberal Arts building, made a monetary donation to refresh aging technology within the building. The building was built 50 years ago and was equipped with the basic projector, screen and computer in early 2000’s. This presented itself to be a challenge for the staff that had to use more technology in the classroom. It was imperative to the university to have user friendly technology, and not let it become a hindrance to the learning environment.

“AVI provided us with more ideas and more solutions that I wouldn’t have thought of,” stated Jared Sheffield, UMT’s GrizTech IT Manager. Mark Hunt, AVI’s Project Developer, was determined to provide the two rooms with the state-of-the-art audio visual systems, while designing a flexible, easy-to-use and easily accessible space.

Since the rooms had little flexibility and no opportunity for innovative teaching styles, AVI was brought on to the job to completely gut the rooms and give it the overhaul it deserved.
