CHALLENGE

In order to meet the diverse needs of its growing student body, Washington University in St. Louis sought to expand graduate and undergraduate teaching facilities with a large-scale, 50+ room project capable of housing a variety of technology platforms.

The biggest challenge was the extremely tight time frame, followed by the need to use the existing control room located in the Charles Knight Executive Education Center, adjacent to the new facility. The existing control room was handling an analog system with the intention of switching to digital in 2016. Plans are also underway to incorporate the undergraduate building, Simon Hall, in the summer of 2016.

SOLUTION

With just 14 weeks to reach substantial completion, AVI utilized all resources available to integrate a system designed around a fiber backbone with the RGB Spectrum 320 x 320 fiber switching headend to matrix all audio and video signals. All rooms are controlled and routed by AMX.
The comprehensive solution met all of the customer’s requirements. Beyond performing well under high-demand conditions, it had the added benefit of reliability and AVI Global PRO Support. Since installation, AVI Systems has been contracted by Washington University for repeat business.
