In planning for growth of their Advanced Heart Center, the University of Kansas Hospital designed and constructed a three-story expansion atop the existing structure. AVI was tasked to design conference spaces for the greatest flexibility of use and presentation capability.

The Advanced Heart Center required the capability to handle high-level meetings and needed high reliability. An efficient process was necessary to develop, design and execute the project within time and budget.

AVI Systems met with key stakeholders to develop requirements and start the design. The project included small Conference Rooms across three floors and a Conference Center consisting of a Pre-Function Area, 12-person Medium Conference, 20-person Large Conference, and 50-person Large Training Rooms. The rooms each contain full system control for simplified audio and video conferencing, and each has controlled lighting and power shades for enhanced light filtering, including total dark-out capability.

Small Conference Rooms: 70” LED with interactive touchscreen; integrated sound; and integrated microphones for audio conferencing at the primary table.

Medium and Large Conference Rooms: Large-format screens with projection capable of being split into multiple images; integrated audio; video-conferencing codec and cameras; ‘SMART’ interactive tablet at the podium; and integrated controls.

Large Training Room: Movable tables with embedded electrical power for PCs; control system with access at two fixed wall locations; and two-room location options for podium placement. The system integrated with room lighting controls, window treatment(s), and was programmed for preset system configurations.
